What we hold, and what we don't
Last updated 13 September 2026.
Who is responsible for your data
D1Z Technologies Limited (RC 9682551), a company registered in Nigeria, owns Research Brainie and decides how the information on this page is used. Questions about your data go to the address at the bottom of this page.
The paper you upload
This is the part worth reading carefully, because it is the part most services are vague about.
- ·The PDF is deleted immediately. It is written to a scratch file, read once for its text, and removed before the upload request finishes, on the failure path as well as the success one. It is never written to permanent storage and never backed up.
- ·The extracted text goes when the analysis lands. The text is held only while the paper is being analysed, then cleared. If the analysis fails, it is cleared then too. This is why re-analysing a paper means uploading it again.
- ·Your copy stays on your machine. So that you can read alongside the questions, your browser keeps its own copy of the PDF locally. It never leaves your device and is never uploaded back. Closing your account deletes it from your browser too.
To be analysed, a paper’s text is sent to Anthropic’s API, which is the model doing the reading. That is the one place a paper goes, it happens while the analysis runs, and it is listed below with everyone else.
What is kept
- ·Your email address and name, and what you say you are researching.
- ·The analysis of each paper, and its title, authors, journal and year.
- ·Your own answers at each pass, your notes, and your reading history, the record of how your thinking developed.
- ·Flashcards, projects, your reading queue, and the connections found between your papers.
- ·A record of credits bought and spent, and of payments made.
- ·Support conversations, including anything the assistant answered.
Your answers are the part that is genuinely yours and exists nowhere else. They are not sold, not used to train anything, and not shown to another reader. All of it can be downloaded as a single file from Settings, at any time, without asking.
What is never collected
- ·Card numbers. Payments happen on the provider's own page and we never see the details.
- ·Tracking across other websites. There are no advertising trackers and nothing is shared with an advertising network.
- ·Anything about people other than you, unless you upload it, please don't.
Everyone who touches it
These are the companies the service depends on. Each one sees only what its job requires, and each is named because a privacy policy that says “trusted partners” is telling you nothing.
Your account and your work are stored in London. Because the service is run from Nigeria and uses the companies above, your data crosses borders, most relevantly to the United States when a paper is analysed.
How long it is kept
- ·The uploaded PDF: not kept at all, deleted inside the request that uploaded it.
- ·A paper's extracted text: until its analysis finishes, then cleared.
- ·Your account and your work: until you delete it. Nothing is deleted on a timer.
- ·Payment records: kept after an account closes, with your identity removed, because a dispute can arrive months later and the books have to balance.
- ·Server logs: short-lived, and used for finding faults rather than for watching anyone.
What you can do
- ·See everything. Settings → Download everything gives you one file with all of it, including every answer you wrote.
- ·Correct it. Your name and research interests are editable in Settings; notes and answers are editable where you wrote them.
- ·Delete it. Settings → Close this account removes your account and everything in it, and clears the PDFs your browser was holding.
None of these needs a request or a waiting period, they are buttons, because a right you have to ask permission to use is not much of a right.
Email is used for confirming your address, resetting a password, and replying to support. There is no marketing list, and nothing is sent that you did not start.
Asking about any of this
Email support@researchbrainie.com, or use Help inside the app.
If something here does not match what the product does, that is a fault worth reporting, and it will be fixed rather than argued about. The integrity statement covers the related question of what Brainie will and will not do with your work.
